The loss of a pet is a stressful event, and for many families, the feelings of grief can be difficult to interpret. Hope is happy to offer regular grief support group sessions, free of charge (registration required), at our hospital. The 90 minute sessions are held Tuesday evenings and the courses run on a four week cycle to cover each stage of recovery.
Sessions are run by Dr. Karen Randall, a graduate of Colorado State University Veterinary School. Dr. Randall has been a small animal practitioner and practice owner for over 20 years. Her current practice focuses on providing in-home veterinary palliative care, hospice and euthanasia services. Dr. Randall has completed bereavement facilitator training through Holy Cross Hospice and is a current support group facilitator for their family and child loss groups. She has also received a certificate in Animal-Related Grief and Bereavement from the School of Veterinary Social Work at the University of Tennessee. As a lifelong pet lover, Dr. Randall understands the human-animal bond and the intense grief that can accompany the loss of a beloved companion animal.
