Fun activities (including Barry Switzer!) planned for Open House at new advanced pet hospital

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla –Visitors to the Open House for the new BluePearl Veterinary Partners hospital Saturday will get the opportunity to meet legendary OU football coach Barry Switzer.

Switzer and his wife, Becky, are notable dog enthusiasts who have helped raise money for animal rescue organizations and are the founders of Ground Zero K9 Emergency Training Center in Oklahoma.

The Switzers will make an appearance and sign autographs from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday at  the Open House, 1401 W. Memorial Road. Members of the media are welcome to attend – please contact Carrie O’Brion at carrie.obrion@bluepearlvet.com or 727.698.2611.

“We are so honored to host Barry and Becky Switzer,” said Dr. Jeff Studer, medical director for BluePearl in Oklahoma City. “They have done so much to help animals in our community, and we’re excited to show them our new hospital, which will help us deliver on our promise of enriching lives through remarkable care for pets.”

The celebration kicks off at 9 a.m. Friday with a ribbon cutting at the new 18,500-square foot facility. The Open House Saturday is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature games, food trucks and tours of the new hospital, which has many of the same equipment found at a human hospital, such as an MRI, CT scanner, ultrasound, digital radiology and more.

Construction on the new hospital began in February 2016. The new facility allows BluePearl to merge its surgery and specialty/emergency services, which were previously housed in separate buildings. Those facilities, located at 1800 W. Memorial Road and 13551 N. Indiana Ave., closed when the new hospital opened in January.

For those who haven’t visited BluePearl, it’s a pretty remarkable place. This isn’t where your pets go for routine care. It’s more like a Mayo Clinic for animals – an advanced medical facility where dogs and cats are treated by skilled oncologists, ophthalmologists, emergency clinicians, internal medicine specialists and more. It’s open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to handle any emergency situation a pet might encounter.

BluePearl also has deep ties to the community, and has developed strong relationships with local pet rescue groups. The hospital is also proud to provide training and care to K-9 units of local law enforcement agencies, including the Oklahoma City Police Department.
